No computer graphic can ever surpass what a real human body can do--and what the body can do is on spectacular display in Ong-Bak, a Thai action movie starring the lithe and flexible Tony Jaa. When the head is stolen from a holy statue in Jaa's rural village, he goes to Bangkok to get it back. Of course, it just so happens

From the moment the crocodile leaps out of the muddy water, you know you’re in for some dynamic entertainment. What will surprise you is just how sweeping, inventive, and even beautiful this Thai martial arts movie can be. The plot of Ong Bak 2 is basic: A young prince sees his parents murdered by a usurping tyrant. Under the tutelage of a bandit chief, the boy grows up to be an astonishing fighter who sets out to take revenge. (There’s no need to see Ong Bak before seeing this film; the only thing they have in common is their star.) What lifts it above the ordinary are aggressive camera-work, acrobatic action sequences, and moments of dazzling, hypnotic loveliness (such as the Thai dance scene, shot with a stunning visual symmetry that falls somewhere between Busby Berkeley and Stanley Kubrick). And above all, there is Tony Jaa, who stars as the adult prince and co-directed. Jaa is one of those virtuosic physical performers--like Bruce Lee but also like Fred Astaire--who seem to channel some divine energy through human flesh. Not only is he is a peak athlete; he has a vulnerable, soulful charisma, which has nothing to do with acting ability but makes someone supremely watchable on film. Ong Bak 2 is not kitsch or camp; it has the over-the-top romanticism that Western audiences sometimes resist--but if you surrender to it, Ong Bak 2 is a rich, rewarding movie experience. --Bret Fetzer

As much as I enjoyed the original "Ong Bak" (2003), there were moments that felt like it was attempting to mimic big-budget action movies from other parts of the world (e.g., the motorbike chase, which was kinda lame). The script was also a bit bland in places. Still a great action flick, but it left some room for improvement.

Enter "Ong Bak 2", which improves upon its predecessor in every conceivable way. The most obvious enhancements are the cinematography and set designs, which are phenomenal. The highlight sequence in this regard must be the night time dance, which emphasizes golden architecture and beautiful clothing that reminds one of the striking visuals that are showcased in Zhang Yimou's films. All is not so clean, however, because the environments add a significant amount of authenticity with an unending assault of gritty, dirty, primal village imagery amidst the forests of Thailand. One simply cannot overstate the spectacular images presented herein, and many reviewers seem to have undervalued the amazing cultural contributions that "Ong Bak 2" has to offer, because non-Thai viewers will be transported to an unfamiliar world that not only exhibits rough geographical locations, but an equally rough (and incredibly diverse) band of bizarre, threatening characters that are attention-grabbing for virtually every second they're on screen (e.g., the white-haired mystic, the pirates, the dark-skinned wrestler, the crow man, etc.). When all is said and done, this film genuinely captures Thai culture from start to finish, with no pandering to foreign influence outside of some martial arts styles.

And that, my dear friends, is the crux of why "Ong Bak 2" so very easily surpasses its predecessor. Many of the non-action scenes are riveting and interesting to watch, which is something one cannot say about "Ong Bak" or even the brilliant "Tom Yum Goong" for that matter (which successfully used an absurd quantity of superbly executed action sequences to overpower any and all deficiencies that nest in-between the beatings). This is not to say that the script of "Ong Bak 2" is far better than Jaa's previous movies, because the conclusion is in desperate need for a direct sequel that wraps up the fates of the surviving antagonists as well as the lead protagonist. Nevertheless, the visuals, character interactions, and primary conflicts provide constant entertainment on a minute by minute basis. This movie doesn't even need action to sustain interest, and if that's not a glaring sign that Tony Jaa has already surpassed Bruce Lee as a cinematic entertainer, then nothing is.

Thai-born martial artist Tony Jaa, whose gravity-defying stunts wowed American audiences in Ong-Bak: The Thai Warrior, returns in an equally eye-popping stunt fest that should thrill all but the most jaded action fans. The very simple plot has the soft-spoken, mild-mannered Jaa as a young man from a rural community dispatched to Australia to recover a pair of sacred elephants.

I loved Ong Bak and think Tony Jaa is a human dynamo.
This is apparently his first film appearance and was made by the same action team that made Ong Bak.
Fan sites say this will be a 2 disc set with loads of extras-
-interview and demo with Tony in New York.Rza of Wu Tang Clan is MC and Method Man,Taimak(Last Dragon)and others are there to meet and greet him
-Tony Jaa in Thailand being honered at some ceremony
-profile of Panna(Punna?)who is the action director and mastermind of Ong Bak.He's also the lead villian of Spirited Killer.
-profile of Thaland action films
Word is this will be available in it's original language with subtitles and also dubbed.
And at 9.99 from Amazon it's a no brainer.
Normally I stick to the budget packs but this is an exception!

By Joe Sixpack

Not to be confused with the Kevin Costner/Whitney Houston schmaltzfest of the same name, this Thai action film is one one of countless gun-happy Asian action films that have come in the wake of John Woo's 1989 masterpiece, "The Killer." But 2004's "The Bodyguard," directed by Thai comedian Petchtai Wongkamlao, is a goofball gunfest that owes as much to teen parody flicks as to Chuck Norris and Bruce Lee. While the bullets fly, minor characters crack jokes and various assassins emerge as bullies and buffoons -- the film plays it straight for only a second or two, and the rapidly rising bodycount is only half the fun.

In the first film, "Bodyguard," Wongkamlao (an improbably nebbishy action hero) plays a personal bodyguard who fails to save the life of his billionaire employer, despite having annihilated the dozens of killers sent to attack. Disgraced, he is fired by the victim's son, a feckless playboy whose life is now in danger as bad guys try to take over his father's kazillion-dollar business empire. (Don't worry too much about the plot, though: it won't get in the way for long...) The comedy keeps getting more and more outrageous: in the first half of the film, Wongkamlao streaks naked through downtown Bangkok, shooting at his pursuers while holding a cereal bowl over his privates... and that's just the beginning of the film! In the 2007 sequel, we get the origins of the bodyguard character, in his younger role as a government secret agent uncovering corruption in the Thai record industry. (Again, don't worry too much about the plot...)

Both films, in addition to being entertaining and goofy, give interesting glimpses into modern Thai society -- ornate temples and shiny skyscrapers set next to ramshackle slums and vast junkyards filled with bony, desperate rag-pickers. It's the kind of social commentary that works best because it isn't actually commentary at all -- it's just a simple presentation of life as it is in modern-day Southeast Asia. And meanwhile, the bullets fly, the bodies fall and the laughter rises... (DJ Joe Sixpack, Slipcue film reviews)

Product Description

Tony Jaa makes a long awaited return as The Battle Warrior. Tony is the protector of an artifact that mercenaries are seeking to get at any cost. Joining Tony is his mentor Panna Rittikrai and the team that brought us ‘Ong Bak,’ ‘The Protector,’ ‘Born to Fight’ and ‘Dynamite Warrior.’ The action segments were so enormous that a total of three stunt teams were called in to handle it all!
‘Battle Warrior’ gives Tony ample opportunity to show off his phenomenal skills which the Seattle Post-Intelligencer calls `...the best human special effect since Jet Li...' - and TIME magazine simply refers to Jaa as `The Next Action Hero'.

This movie is a piece of garbage. First of all it is grossly mis-advertised. The plot description on the back of the DVD cover makes it sounds as if Tony Jaa is the hero of the movie protecting an artifact from bad guys, when in fact the exact opposite is true. Tony Jaa is a bad guy who has about 7 minutes of screen time. As for the plot, it makes less than no sense, the dubbing is horrific (I noticed the voices for one character changing through out the movie), at one point the dubbing just stops for a few minutes. There are zombies, black goblins, a big German guy named Smith, and for those who appreciate the art of bad cinema, this is a gem. I admit your brain needs to be wired a certain way to find this kind of thing funny, but if it is, you'll be laughing for days.

Product Description

Ong-Bak stars Phanom Yeerum as the earnest Ting, a martial-arts hero to the little backwater Thai village of Ong-Bak. The very first scene has him competing in a brutal variant of capture-the-flag, which involves climbing a tree naked and throwing everyone else off the branches with one's bare hands (or feet, or whatever else is handy). Not long after, gangsters vandalize the town's statue of Buddha, tearing off its head and hocking it on the black market.
Ting is incensed, and with the support of his village elders, heads off to the big city to get it back.Ting is totally unequipped to deal with city life, and he's no detective, either. When he hooks up with his old friend George (Mum Jok Mok), who's now a wheeler-dealer in the city's underbelly, George stiffs him for the seed money he received from his fellow villagers for the mission and blows it on a cage match. Ting follows him to the fight club, literally walks into the middle of a battle, and before he knows it is fighting an army of the meanest Bangkok street brawlers imaginable. (He also doesn't understand showmanship: when the first challenger charges him, Ting puts him down with one blow to the side of the neck. Blam! End of fight.)

It may be uncut, but the 20th century fox version has much better picture quality and good subtitles too. The only thing you are missing out on is a couple mroe parts in the village. It is just not needed. If the story was actually good, it might matter. But the reason to watch this is the stunts. The fights are some of the hardest hitting stuff you will ever get but Tony Jaa's stunt work is second to none. If you are a fan of watching great action movies, check this out casue it is the best one that has come out in a while.

First of all, if you want anything originally produced by foreign country, it is ALWAYS the BEST to STICK WITH FOREIGN IMPORT. Do not buy USA (North American edited/re-produced Version). WHY? Because it cut best scenes usually, and dubbing makes the act stupid. Watch this film in ORIGINAL language with English subtitle. The film is incredible. It is because REAL. Muey Thai is one of Strongest Standing Ring sports on the Planet, right next to Mas Oyama's Kyokushin Karate/World Oyama Karate (USA). Now, if you are TRUE fan of Martial art. or Practice Full Contact Martial Art system. You are guaranteed to love this IMPORT version of the film. Enjoy..and tell me what you think. This is a keeper.
